The investigation targeted alleged drug trafficking activity in the Bancroft and Trenton areas and forms part of ongoing efforts by police to combat the distribution of illicit substances in Ontario communities. Fentanyl and other illegal drugs continue to be a significant public safety concern due to their connection to overdose incidents and other drug-related harms. Police say they remain committed to identifying and disrupting individuals involved in the production, distribution, and trafficking of illicit drugs. On May 27th, 2026, officers executed search warrants at multiple locations in Trenton, Belleville, Bancroft, and Toronto. Police say the incident was reported on May 12th after a male allegedly entered the store, filled a shopping cart with merchandise, and left the business without making any attempt to pay. Following an investigation, officers identified a suspect. On May 26th at approximately 6:26 p.m., police located and arrested the individual. IHARC ( The Integrated Homelessness & Addictions Response Centre ) in Northumberland County has immediately suspended all services until further notice following what the organization described as a "serious incident involving Cobourg Police". In a public statement, Executive Director Jordan Stevenson said that essential operational equipment, such as phones, laptops, tablets, and body cameras, was seized during the incident. According to Stevenson, the situation began during a medical emergency in Cobourg involving a person reportedly without vital signs. Stevenson stated he attended the scene to assist until emergency services arrived and identified himself as an outreach worker at all times. He has been accused of impersonating a peace officer, but remains firm that he never identified as one, according to his own statements. IHARC emphasized that it is not a police or security service and provides non-police outreach support for individuals experiencing crisis, homelessness, addiction, and isolation. Stevenson said the seizure of equipment has significantly impacted the organization’s ability to operate and support vulnerable individuals within the community forcing the immediate suspension of all services. Because the matter is now before the legal system, IHARC says it is limiting further public comment at this time. More updates are expected as the matter progresses through the legal system. According to the Belleville Police Service, officers responded to a report of an assault at a business in the area at approximately 9:15 p.m. on May 25th. Police say a man was sitting inside his vehicle when another man approached and began a verbal confrontation. The dispute allegedly escalated when the suspect punched the victim before fleeing the area on foot. Shortly after the incident, officers received a separate complaint involving a man in the same area who was reportedly yelling threats. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and determined the individual was the same suspect involved in the earlier assault. As a result of the investigation, Chad Owen, age 34, of Belleville, was located and arrested. He has been charged with assault. Police say Owen was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in August. According to information released by Belleville Police, officers were called to the area on May 24th at approximately 5:00 p.m. for a report of an assault. Police say their investigation found that a man had allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl who was known to him. The incident reportedly included the little girl being grabbed by the shoulder, choked, and threatened. As a result of the investigation, the 39-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with: Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm Assault Assault causing bodily harm by choking The accused was held for a bail hearing. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | A 42-year-old Belleville man is facing multiple charges after a suspected impaired driving complaint led police to a residence, where officers say the situation escalated into a violent confrontation. According to information released by the Belleville Police Service, officers were called to the city’s north end on May 22nd at approximately 7:25 p.m. after a complainant reported seeing a male arrive in a parking lot while appearing intoxicated. Police say the complainant removed the vehicle keys before the male left the area on foot. Through investigation, officers identified the male and determined he was prohibited from driving. Police then attended his residence, where the male and a female were present. When officers attempted to arrest him, police say the man refused to comply and retreated inside the home. Moments later, officers heard a verbal dispute and observed the male with his arm around the female’s neck. Officers intervened, and police say the man released the female before allegedly charging at an officer. He was taken into custody. The 42-year-old Belleville man has been charged with; operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code dangerous operation failure or refusal to comply with demand taking a motor vehicle without consent spousal assault resisting a peace officer, and assaulting a peace officer. According to information released by police on May 22nd, officers with the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit executed the warrant at a residence in Trenton on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026. The investigation also involved support from the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and the OPP Digital Forensics Unit. Police reported that several electronic devices were seized during the search. No further details about the devices or the investigation have been released. As a result of the investigation, Kyle Peirson, age 30, of Trenton, was arrested and charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. Police say investigations of this nature often involve specialized officers and digital forensic support due to the use of technology in alleged offences involving children. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | From May 12th to 18th, the Belleville Police Service actively participated in Canada Road Safety Week, a national 7-day campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This year’s campaign theme, “Road Safety, Every Road. Every Day. Everyone,” reminding all drivers that safety is a daily responsibility. During the campaign, Belleville Police made a fulsome effort to promote safe driving, resulting in: Charges laid: 166 Warnings issued: 40 Speeding: 77 Cell phone use: 17 Highlights of local enforcement activities include: Speed Enforcement on Dundas Street: Officers dedicated four hours over two days focusing on high-speed. Cell Phone Enforcement and Education: Officers spent four hours over two days educating and enforcing rules on handheld communication devices. In Ontario, it is an offence to have a handheld communication device in your hand while driving, regardless of the circumstances. If you are stopped at a traffic light, you are still driving. The penalties begin with a fine of $615, three demerit points and, upon conviction, an automatic driver’s licence suspension. RIDE Programs with Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS): Officers conducted two RIDE programs targeting impaired driving. The checkpoint on Saturday, May 16th, found three drivers with positive alcohol readings out of 31 vehicles total that were checked. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | A hometown truck and tractor pull is returning to the Stirling Agricultural Fairgrounds this summer with a mission bigger than horsepower. Pulling Together 2.0 will be held in support of 10 year old Gabe Sikkema and his family as they prepare for the next stage of his cancer treatment. Event Details The fundraiser will be held at the Stirling Agricultural Fairgrounds, located at 437 West Front Street in Stirling on July 4th, 2026. Gates open at 10 a.m., with the event beginning at 12 noon. Admission is $10 per person at the gate, while children under 12 can attend for free. Competitors will pay a $10 hook fee per pull. The day will also include raffle prizes and a 50/50 draw, with all proceeds going directly to the Sikkema family. Why The Community Is Pulling Together According to event organizers, Gabe was diagnosed with B Cell ALL Leukemia at the age of two. He went through three and a half years of chemotherapy and was cleared in 2021. The cancer returned in 2023. Gabe fought back again, but organizers say he faced a second relapse in July 2025 at the age of 10. After several advanced treatments, including CAR T Cell therapy, Gabe’s medical team has determined that his best remaining option is a bone marrow transplant. A Family Facing A Long Stay Away From Home This April, Gabe and his family are expected to travel to SickKids in Toronto, where his treatment and recovery could require a stay of 30 to more than 100 days. That kind of medical journey brings major challenges beyond the hospital room, including travel, hotels, meals, time away from work and the emotional weight of supporting a child through serious illness. The goal of Pulling Together 2.0 is to help ease some of that pressure and remind the Sikkema family they are surrounded by support. The Sikkema Family From A Hometown Idea To A Community Effort The fundraiser was created by Daniel Bush and his friend John Sexsmith, who had talked for years about hosting a truck and tractor pull in their hometown. Last year, they decided to make it happen and use the event to help a local family in need. What began as two friends following a passion for trucks, tractors and horsepower quickly became something much larger. With support from local businesses, organizations, sponsors, volunteers and community members, the first Pulling Together Stirling event welcomed more than 800 spectators and 120 competitors. It also helped raise nearly $14,000 for a local family whose four year old boy was battling cancer. How To Attend Organizers are hoping to see familiar faces and new supporters come out on July 4. Police say that three people are facing charges following a drug trafficking investigation conducted by the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit. According to information released by police, the investigation covered the Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, and Kingston areas. It led officers to conduct a traffic stop in Napanee and later execute a search warrant in Whitby. Police say those charged include a 41-year-old from South Frontenac Township and two Whitby residents, aged 34 and 33. As part of the investigation, officers seized significant quantities of suspected drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA and other substances. Police also reported the seizure of firearms, a stolen vehicle and Canadian currency. According to information released by Belleville Police, officers were called on May 20th at approximately 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a weapons incident connected to an east end secondary school. Police say a student allegedly approached another student and demanded their pizza while brandishing a knife. Following an investigation, the 17-year-old was arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in July. Belleville Police have not reported any injuries or the school in connected with the incident. The name of the accused has not been released, as her identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
