Northumberland OPP have charged a 17-year-old from Quebec following the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Trent Hills on Wednesday. At approximately 2:15 p.m. on September 16th, an officer travelling on County Road 35 received an alert from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition system identifying a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the Niagara Region. Police say the same vehicle had earlier failed to stop for officers near Highway 401 in Cobourg. Officers later attempted to stop the vehicle at a commercial property in Hastings, but police allege the driver fled again. The vehicle was subsequently located abandoned on Lakeshore Drive, prompting an increased police presence while officers searched the surrounding area. The OPP Canine Unit assisted with the search, and officers later located one person in a nearby field and took them into custody. Police remained in the area until approximately 5:30 p.m. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old from Quebec was charged with: Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 Dangerous operation x2 Flight from a peace officer x2 Several Highway Traffic Act offences The search has since concluded, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | Reports of someone going through parked vehicles led police to a woman they say was also connected to an earlier credit card fraud investigation. The first investigation began on September 13th, 2026, when Belleville Police responded to a business on North Front Street regarding a reported fraud. Police were told that a wallet had been stolen from a vehicle overnight and that a credit card belonging to the victim was later used at the North Front Street business. Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the business and identified a female suspect. Three days later, on September 16th at approximately 4:11 a.m., Belleville Police responded to the city’s east end after receiving reports of an individual going through parked vehicles and stealing items. Officers located and identified a suspect during the investigation. Police determined the woman was the same individual identified in connection with the earlier fraud investigation. As a result of the investigations, Stephanie McKenna, a 35-year-old Belleville woman of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with: Use of credit card Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Trespassing at night Theft under $5,000 Fail to comply with probation order McKenna was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in December. Belleville Police responded to a reported disturbance at the business at 12:23 a.m. on Sunday, September 13th, 2026. According to police, an interaction between the employee and two males escalated into a physical altercation. Police allege one of the males struck the employee in the head. Following the investigation, Tarnpreet Singh, age 21, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with: Assault Singh was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in November. If police release this information, we will update this article accordingly A 65-year-old Belleville man is facing assault charges following a domestic dispute and a stabbing in the Front Street area on September 10th, 2026. Belleville Police responded to the area at approximately 9:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a domestic dispute. Officers spoke with a woman outside a business who reported that a man had grabbed her by the throat during an altercation inside. According to police, the two left the area separately following the incident. While officers were investigating, police received a separate call reporting a stabbing involving the same man at an apartment above the business. Officers attended and found a male victim in the hallway suffering from stab-related injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries police described as serious but non-life-threatening. Police subsequently located the suspect inside his apartment and took him into custody without further incident. As a result of the investigation, the 65-year-old Belleville man was charged with: Assault with a weapon Assault - spousal He was held for a bail hearing. If the names are released, we will update this article accordingly Update: Tyendinaga Police Service says all outstanding individuals being sought near Lower Slash Road and Wyman Road have now been safely arrested. The arrests follow an earlier community notice advising that approximately two individuals, described by police as non-community members, were actively evading officers in the area. Police reported an increased presence as Tyendinaga officers, assisted by Ontario Provincial Police specialized units, carried out a search warrant operation on Lower Slash Road. While officers searched for the outstanding individuals, community members were asked to avoid the Lower Slash Road and Wyman Road area. Residents were also directed to follow police instructions and refrain from approaching or interfering with the operation. In a subsequent update, Tyendinaga Police confirmed that all outstanding individuals had been safely arrested. Officers, assisted by the OPP, will continue carrying out the search warrant operation on Lower Slash Road. Police said the roadway remains open to traffic, with no anticipated traffic-related issues at the time of the update. Tyendinaga Police thanked community members for their continued cooperation. On September 6th, 2026, at approximately 4:23 a.m. Belleville Police responded after receiving a report that an unfamiliar man was in the backyard. When officers arrived, they found the man sitting on the property and spoke with him. During their investigation, officers determined that he had an outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrant for assault. Police identified the man as Bret Hill, age 28, from Trenton. He was arrested on the strength of the existing warrant. Hill was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in November. The information provided by police did not include further details about the assault matter connected to the warrant. No additional charges relating to the backyard incident were listed in the information provided. Small Town News will update the article if and when this information is released A 42-year-old Belleville woman is facing several charges after another woman was allegedly followed, threatened and physically assaulted in the city’s east end. Belleville Police were called to the area at approximately 8:39 a.m. on September 3rd after receiving a report of an assault in progress. According to police, the victim was walking through the area when an unknown woman began following her while yelling in her direction. Concerned for her safety, the victim contacted police and began speaking with a dispatcher. While the victim remained on the phone with police, the situation reportedly escalated. The suspect allegedly threatened the woman before physically assaulting her by punching and choking her. Responding officers arrived and reportedly witnessed the suspect actively assaulting the victim. Police immediately intervened, stopped the altercation and placed the woman under arrest. Following the investigation, the 42-year-old Belleville woman, who police described as having no fixed address, was charged with: Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm Assault causing bodily harm - choke Assault Failing to comply with a probation order - four counts Police did not provide any further information regarding the extent of the victim’s injuries. A reported robbery inside a Quinte West residence has resulted in the arrests of five people and the seizure of a prohibited conducted energy weapon. Quinte West OPP officers were called to the residence at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28th, following a report that a robbery was underway. According to police, five people carrying weapons entered the home and used a conducted energy weapon to threaten those inside before taking cash. Police arrived and arrested five suspects at the residence. During the investigation, officers recovered a prohibited conducted energy weapon and a cartridge designed for the device. The incident occurred at the business in the community of Frankford, within the Municipality of Quinte West. Police believe the suspects stole alcohol from the store during the incident. The suspect took out what was believed to be a handgun at the time and stated:" he was going to shoot everyone." Another suspect then left the store with the first suspect with what is believed to be a case of alcohol. The weapon involved was later determined to be a BB or pellet gun. The suspects were described as two Caucasian males, with one wearing a red hoodie and the other wearing a black hoodie. Following the robbery, police launched an investigation and apprehended the suspects shortly after in their residence. At this time, additional details, including the identities of those involved and any potential charges, have not been confirmed by police. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | Three Campbellford residents are facing multiple firearm-related charges after Ontario Provincial Police carried out a raid at a property in Trent Hills and seized a loaded handgun. On Thursday, August 27th, members of the Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit, with assistance from the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, attended a residence on Grand Road. Police said three people fled the property on foot as officers arrived. All three of the accused were located and arrested nearby. During the investigation, officers also seized a loaded firearm. The Accused & Charges As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old David Munford of Campbellford has been charged with: Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition Tampering with a serial number of a firearm Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order Fail to comply with probation order - two counts Shane McLean, 45, of Campbellford has been charged with: Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm Tampering with a serial number of a firearm Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition Fail to comply with probation order Kelly Scott, 39, of Campbellford has been charged with: Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm Tampering with a serial number of a firearm Fail to comply with probation order Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition All three accused were held for a court appearance in Cobourg. Northumberland OPP said the investigation remains ongoing and officers are continuing to look for a fourth person believed to be connected to the incident. A 33-year-old Belleville man is facing several charges following an assault at an apartment building in the city’s west end. Belleville Police responded to the building on August 25th, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m. after receiving a report of an assault involving two residents. Police say a male allegedly struck another resident in the leg with a hammer before spitting on him. During the incident, the accused is also alleged to have smashed a window inside the apartment building. Following the altercation, the suspect returned to his apartment unit. At approximately 5:52 p.m., officers successfully negotiated with the male to exit the apartment. He was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges Laid As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with: Assault with a weapon Assault Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose Mischief under $5,000 The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | A 24-year-old Belleville man is facing charges after police say an argument involving threats toward a cat escalated into an attempted stabbing at an east-end residence. Belleville Police responded to the residence on August 23rd, 2026, at approximately 9:17 p.m. regarding the disturbance. Police say one of the residents had been away from the home with friends when he learned another resident had allegedly kicked his cat and threatened to kill the animal. The cat's owner returned home, where an argument reportedly began between the two men. During the confrontation, police allege one of the residents armed himself with a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab the other man. Several other people inside the residence intervened and were able to restrain the male until police arrived. Officers arrested the suspect without further incident. Police reported that the victim/owner of the cat sustained minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, Sukhdeep, 24, of Belleville, was charged with: Assault with a Weapon Uttering Threats to Injure or Kill an Animal He was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville in November 2026.
