On November 2nd, 2026, at approximately 5:22 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a reported collision in the area of Sidney Street and Bridge Street West near Tim Horton's in the city's west end. According to police, one vehicle collided with another at the intersection, prompting officers to attend the scene and speak with both drivers involved. During the investigation, officers reportedly observed signs of alcohol impairment in one of the drivers, leading to an arrest. Charges & Accused As a result, Julia Ayotte, age 31, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with the following offences: Operation while impaired - alcohol Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg Ayotte was subsequently released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in December. Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions A 37-year-old Belleville man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles in Stirling. Members of the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation after receiving several reports of items being stolen from vehicles in the areas of West Front Street and Church Street overnight between October 30th and October 31st, 2026. As part of the investigation, officers obtained surveillance footage from the surrounding neighbourhood, which assisted police in identifying a suspect. On November 1st, officers attended a residence in Stirling, where they recovered several items believed to have been stolen, including a laptop computer. Charges & Accused Following the investigation, Dereck Czaikowsky, 37, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Theft under $5,000 Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Trespassing at night Czaikowsky was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Police Seeking Additional Victims Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet reported thefts from their vehicles. Anyone who experienced a theft or noticed suspicious activity in the affected areas during the overnight hours of October 30th into October 31st is encouraged to contact the Central Hastings OPP. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | BELLEVILLE, ON - Eight people from Belleville have been arrested and charged following a drug investigation that saw police execute search warrants on Wilkie Street on Friday, October 30th, 2026. Members of the Belleville Police Service Drugs, Intelligence and Street Crime Unit carried out the operation with assistance from the K9 Unit and Emergency Response Unit. The searches resulted in the seizure of several controlled substances, including cocaine, fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine, along with cash, electronic devices and a flare gun. Drugs and Property Recovered Police reported recovering the following items during the operation: 67.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine 41.6 grams of fentanyl 26.3 grams of cocaine 1.2 grams of psilocybin 16 hydromorphone pills 5 codeine pills $1,925 in Canadian currency $56 in American currency 4 cellphones 1 tablet 1 flare gun containing a 12-gauge slug The investigation resulted in eight arrests, with five individuals held for bail hearings and three others released with future court dates. The Accused and Charges Daniel Downer, 36, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Failure to comply with a probation order Downer was held for a bail hearing. Jamie Lee Bowers, 44, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Bowers was held for a bail hearing. Darryl Allen, 44, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of a Schedule III controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking Failure to comply with a probation order Allen was held for a bail hearing. Rhonda Fults, 50, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of a Schedule III controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking Fults was released on an undertaking and is expected to appear in court in November. Robert Ruttan, 44, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Ruttan was held for a bail hearing. Colleen Smith, 50, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Smith was held for a bail hearing. Amos Kellar, 47, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking Kellar was released on an undertaking with a court appearance scheduled for November. Ashley Dainard, 37, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with: Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking Dainard was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in November. Court Proceedings The operation involved several specialized policing units and resulted in a total of 26 criminal charges against the eight accused. The charges include allegations of drug trafficking, possession of property or proceeds obtained through crime, and breaches of probation orders. Five of the accused were held for bail hearings following their arrests, while the remaining three were released on undertakings requiring them to attend court in November. The charges have not been tested in court, and the investigation's findings will be subject to the judicial process. If you suspect criminal activity, please report it. | Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions | A 22-year-old man is facing multiple weapons-related charges following an incident in downtown Belleville in which a woman was reportedly struck in the face by a projectile fired from a passing vehicle. On October 28th, 2026, at approximately 9:13 p.m., Belleville Police responded to Front Street after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by an object originating from a moving vehicle. According to police, an occupant of the vehicle allegedly fired projectiles from inside the vehicle, with one striking a female pedestrian in the face. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle a short distance away and conducted a traffic stop. During the subsequent investigation, police seized two imitation firearms and simunition ammunition from the vehicle. Accused & Charges As a result of the investigation, James Deline, age 22, of Minden, was arrested and charged with:

A 34-year-old Belleville woman is facing multiple criminal charges following a domestic dispute that allegedly involved a stabbing and left a man with injuries. On October 27th, 2026, at approximately 9:17 a.m., Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city's east end following a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a man and a woman and learned that an altercation had occurred between the two the previous evening. During the investigation, police were informed that the woman had allegedly assaulted the man by punching him and stabbing him during the altercation. The man attended hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Charges As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged with the following offences: Aggravated assault - spousal Assault with a weapon - spousal The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. On October 28th, 2026, at approximately 2:28 a.m., Belleville Police conducted a traffic stop in the west end of the city. While speaking with the driver, officers began an investigation into suspected impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Accused & Charges Below As a result of the investigation, N-Gjuma James, 28, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with the following offences: Criminal Code Charges: Operation while impaired - alcohol Failure or refusal to comply with demand Highway Traffic Act Charges: Drive with improper headlights Fail to provide required document Fail to have insurance card Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver Class G1 licence holder - drive at unlawful hour Novice driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero The charges include alleged violations of Ontario's graduated licensing requirements, which place additional restrictions on drivers holding a G1 licence. Under Ontario law, G1 licence holders must be accompanied by a qualified driver, are prohibited from driving between midnight and 5 a.m., and must maintain a zero blood alcohol concentration while operating a vehicle. James was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in December 2026. A 42-year-old Campbellford man is facing multiple criminal charges following an intimate partner violence investigation in Quinte West that left a woman injured and resulted in an impaired driving arrest. Officers responded to a reported dispute at a residence in Quinte West shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25th. Upon arriving at the residence, officers located an injured woman who was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Police determined that the male suspect had left the residence in a vehicle before officers arrived. A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect in connection with the reported assault. During the arrest, officers observed signs of alcohol impairment, resulting in additional criminal charges. Charges As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old man from Campbellford has been charged with the following offences: Assault Operation while impaired - alcohol Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice. On October 25th, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers with the Belleville Police Service responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Dundas Street East. Police received information regarding a vehicle reportedly being driven erratically, raising concerns about a potentially impaired driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the driver and conducting an investigation, police arrested the individual. Charges Summary Below Rocky Gow, age 45, of Marysville, was arrested and charged with: Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration of 80 mg or more. Voting officially closed at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26th, bringing an end to the municipal election campaign. The election saw several competitive races, with 30 candidates seeking positions as mayor or councillor across Quinte West. Residents voted to elect one mayor and 12 councillors, including five representatives for Trenton, four for Sidney, two for Murray and one for Frankford. Mayoral Election Zack Card has been elected Mayor of Quinte West after receiving 7,424 votes, defeating Shelley Stedall, who received 5,180 votes, and David Thomson, who received 574 votes. Voting officially closed at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26th, with voter turnout reaching 33.1%. Several council races saw close results, particularly in Wards 1 and 3, where the winning candidates secured their seats by fewer than 60 votes. Mayoral Election Michael Metcalf has been elected Mayor of Trent Hills after receiving 3,474 votes; Steven Haylestrom received 1,087 votes. Rick English was acclaimed as Deputy Mayor after running unopposed. Ward 1 Councillor Jana Reid has been elected to represent Ward 1 following a close three-candidate race. Jana Reid - 229 votes (Elected) Karen Ulrich - 203 votes Adam Baguley - 197 votes Reid secured the council seat by a margin of just 26 votes over Karen Ulrich.
