66-Year-Old Charged Following Stolen Debit Card Investigation

A 66-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Northumberland OPP investigated the alleged theft and use of a debit card taken from a vehicle in Trent Hills.
Police were contacted on July 27th after a resident reported that their vehicle had been entered while on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
The incident was reported to have occurred two days earlier.
During the investigation, officers learned that a debit card had been taken from the vehicle and was later allegedly used for several unauthorized purchases at businesses in Havelock.
Police subsequently identified a suspect, and an arrest was made on Thursday, August 20th.
Accused & Charges
Steven Lafonte, 66, of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, has been charged with:
Three counts of Possession of Credit Card Data
Three counts of Fraud Under $5,000
Lafonte is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in November.
