Belleville Man Arrested Following Credit Card Fraud Investigation

A 45-year-old Belleville man was arrested on October 3rd after police located him in the Sidney Street area in connection with an investigation into a stolen credit card that had allegedly been used to make fraudulent purchases.
Belleville Police say the investigation was launched on September 14th, 2026, after officers received a report of a stolen credit card that had subsequently been used to make fraudulent purchases.
As a result of the investigation, police identified a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Michael Mercer, age 45, of Belleville but with no fixed address, was charged with:
Theft of a credit card
Use of a credit card
Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
Fail to comply with a release order
Mercer was held in custody for a bail hearing.
