Belleville Man Arrested Following Downtown Assault Investigation

A police investigation into an alleged assault in Belleville’s downtown core has resulted in an arrest and several criminal charges.
Belleville Police say the incident was first reported on February 17, 2026, when officers were called to the downtown area after receiving information that an individual had been assaulted. The suspect was reported to have fled the scene before police arrived.
Through a follow-up investigation, officers were able to determine the identity of the individual believed to be responsible.
On February 25, 2026, at approximately 5:59 p.m., police located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
A 24-year-old man from Belleville, who is listed as having no fixed address, has been charged with:
Assault
Uttering threats
Failure to comply with a probation order
Police also confirmed that an outstanding warrant was executed at the time of the arrest.
Police have not released any names at this time
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
