Belleville Man Arrested Following Escalating West End Tenant Dispute

Today our team learned that a man from Belleville has been arrested and is facing several criminal charges after a tenant dispute in the city’s west end reportedly escalated into a weapons incident, prompting two separate police responses on the same day.
According to the Belleville Police Service, officers were first called to a residence in Belleville's west end at approximately 12:10 p.m. on July 7th, 2026, regarding a dispute between tenants.
Police say two residents were outside in the yard when a male tenant began yelling at them from an upper staircase. During the confrontation, the man allegedly spat at one of the individuals before breaking a compact disc (CD) and throwing fragments toward the pair.
When officers initially attended the residence, the suspect reportedly remained inside and did not come out despite officers' attempts to arrest him.
At approximately 3:03 p.m., Belleville Police returned to the same residence after the same individual repeatedly contacted police dispatch despite not reporting an emergency.
Upon arriving for the second time, officers learned the situation had escalated further. Police allege the man made additional threats toward the same two residents while pointing what was determined to be an imitation firearm at one of them. He was also believed to be in possession of a knife.
The man eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
Use of an Imitation Firearm While Committing an Offence
Assault with a Weapon
Assault
Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm (two counts)
Public Mischief
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Belleville Police have not indicated whether anyone sustained physical injuries during the incident.
