Belleville Man Charged After Allegedly Striking Resident With Hammer in West End Assault

A 33-year-old Belleville man is facing several charges following an assault at an apartment building in the city’s west end.
Belleville Police responded to the building on August 25th, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m. after receiving a report of an assault involving two residents.
Police say a male allegedly struck another resident in the leg with a hammer before spitting on him.
During the incident, the accused is also alleged to have smashed a window inside the apartment building.
Following the altercation, the suspect returned to his apartment unit.
At approximately 5:52 p.m., officers successfully negotiated with the male to exit the apartment. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges Laid
As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
Assault with a weapon
Assault
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Mischief under $5,000
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
