A 24-year-old Belleville man is facing charges after police say an argument involving threats toward a cat escalated into an attempted stabbing at an east-end residence.
Belleville Police responded to the residence on August 23rd, 2026, at approximately 9:17 p.m. regarding a disturbance.
Police say one of the residents had been away from the home with friends when he learned another resident had allegedly kicked his cat and threatened to kill the animal.
The cat's owner returned home, where an argument reportedly began between the two men.
During the confrontation, police allege one of the residents armed himself with a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab the other man.
Several other people inside the residence intervened and were able to restrain the man until police arrived.
Officers arrested the suspect without further incident. Police reported that the victim sustained minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Sukhdeep, 24, of Belleville, was charged with:
Assault with a Weapon
Uttering Threats to Injure or Kill an Animal
He was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville in November 2026.
