Belleville Man Faces Multiple Arson Charges Following Vehicle Fire

A 38-year-old Belleville man is facing numerous charges after a vehicle fire caused significant property damage in the city's west end Monday.


Officers with the Belleville Police Service, along with Belleville Fire, were called to the area of Moira Street West and Wallbridge Crescent at approximately 8:17 p.m. on June 1st following reports of a car fire.


Police allege a man was behaving erratically in the area and uttering threats before setting a vehicle on fire beneath a carport. The fire subsequently spread to the residence and also caused damage to a neighbouring home.


The suspect was located nearby and arrested.


The 38-year-old man, who police say has no fixed address, was charged with:

  • Arson - Disregard for Human Life (two counts)

  • Arson - Damage to Property (three counts)

  • Mischief Endangering Life

  • Uttering Threats to Damage Property

  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm

  • Breach of Recognizance


The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.


The name of the accused has not been released by Belleville Police at this time. Once more information is available we will be sure to update this article.


Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
