Belleville Woman Arrested After Victim Followed and Choked in East End Assault

A 42-year-old Belleville woman is facing several charges after another woman was allegedly followed, threatened and physically assaulted in the city’s east end.
Belleville Police were called to the area at approximately 8:39 a.m. on September 3rd after receiving a report of an assault in progress.
According to police, the victim was walking through the area when an unknown woman began following her while yelling in her direction. Concerned for her safety, the victim contacted police and began speaking with a dispatcher.
While the victim remained on the phone with police, the situation reportedly escalated. The suspect allegedly threatened the woman before physically assaulting her by punching and choking her.
Responding officers arrived and reportedly witnessed the suspect actively assaulting the victim. Police immediately intervened, stopped the altercation and placed the woman under arrest.
Following the investigation, the 42-year-old Belleville woman, who police described as having no fixed address, was charged with:
Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
Assault causing bodily harm - choke
Assault
Failing to comply with a probation order - four counts
Police did not provide any further information regarding the extent of the victim’s injuries.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
