Belleville Police have charged a 35-year-old woman following an incident at a Front Street business where an officer was allegedly spat on.
Police responded to the business on August 21st, 2026, at approximately 3:12 p.m. regarding a woman who had entered the store and reportedly began causing damage by knocking over several shelves.
At the request of staff, officers trespassed the woman from the business. Police say the woman became angry during the interaction and spat directly in an officer's face.
As a result of the investigation, Sarah Maxwell, 35, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with:
Assaulting a Peace Officer
Maxwell was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in November.
