The Northumberland County Fire Chiefs Association has lifted the County-wide Open Air Burn Ban, effective immediately. The decision was announced Wednesday by Association President Mike Robinson following recent rainfall, cooler temperatures, and additional wet weather in the forecast.
The change applies to all municipalities within Northumberland County, including;
Cobourg
Port Hope
Brighton
The Municipality of Trent Hills
Hamilton Township
Alnwick/Haldimand Township
and Cramahe Township.
While the ban has ended, residents are reminded that municipal open-air burning by-laws remain in effect and must be followed at all times. Failure to comply could result in fines or charges under the Ontario Fire Code or municipal regulations.
Fire officials are asking everyone to continue exercising caution. Even with safer conditions, fires can spread quickly if not properly managed.
As President Robinson noted, preventing unnecessary fires is a shared responsibility: “We appreciate the cooperation of all residents in helping to keep our communities safe.”
Now that the skies have opened up and restrictions are easing, people across Northumberland can once again enjoy responsible open-air burning, whether that’s tidying up property or gathering around a backyard fire with friends. Just remember to keep safety top of mind, stay within your local rules, and report any fire concerns right away.
For more information, residents can contact the Trent Hills Fire Department or the Northumberland County Fire Chiefs Association.
