Charges Laid After OPP Stop Vehicle on Highway 2

| Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions |

A routine traffic stop by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tuesday night resulted in several charges after a vehicle was found to be in an unsafe condition on Highway 2.

OPP’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team, along with Quinte West OPP officers, stopped the vehicle after it was noticed to be defective while travelling along the highway.

During an inspection, officers found that all four tires were missing lug nuts, along with several other safety-related issues. Because of the condition of the vehicle, it was deemed unsafe for the road.

A 20-year-old G2 driver from Belleville was charged with several offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police seized the vehicle’s licence plates and removed it from service.

Situations like this can happen for many reasons, including unexpected mechanical failures or problems that may not be immediately obvious to a driver.

Police are reminding drivers that taking a few moments to check their vehicle can help keep everyone safe on the road.
