UPDATE: Road fully reopen as of 11:37am
A serious collision between a cyclist and a vehicle has left one individual with life-altering injuries and prompted the closure of a section of County Road 64 in Quinte West this morning.
Quinte West OPP and emergency crews responded to the scene near Barcovan Beach Road and Carter Road. The collision occurred earlier in the morning, and by 10:28 a.m., police confirmed that the road would remain closed while the investigation continued. The cyclist was transported to hospital with injuries that officials are calling “life-altering.”
At this time, no further information has been released about the identities of those involved or the circumstances leading up to the collision. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and plan alternate routes while the scene remains active.
A Moment of Compassion
Our thoughts are with the injured cyclist and their loved ones as they face what will no doubt be a long and difficult road to recovery. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly life can change in a matter of seconds, a routine morning ride can turn into a tragedy that affects an entire family, a community, and all those who witnessed or responded to the scene.
First responders work tirelessly in moments like these to stabilize the injured, to secure the area, and to piece together the details with professionalism and care. Their work often goes unseen, but it is deeply appreciated.
A Call for Caution and Care
We urge all drivers and cyclists alike to remember that every road user is someone’s family member, friend, or neighbour. In rural areas like ours, where scenic roads often serve as cycling routes, it’s especially important to remain alert, patient, and respectful on the road.
