An investigation in Peterborough County has led to a man being taken into custody and facing a charge of attempted murder.

Early information surrounding the incident was heard on our emergency services scanner feed prior to official details being released.

On Monday, February 23, 2026, shortly after 9:00 a.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police in Peterborough County were dispatched to a residence following a report involving individuals in a prior relationship.

Information provided to police indicated that an altercation had taken place inside the home.

It was reported that the injured individual sustained repeated impacts, including their head being forced against a wall, and that an attempt was made to submerge them in a bathtub. Police have indicated that these reported circumstances have not been confirmed.

The individual believed to be responsible left the area in a motor vehicle before officers arrived. Due to the nature of the reported injuries, paramedics were also requested to attend.

Officers arrived, spoke with the injured person, and ensured they were transported to the hospital for treatment. Details gathered during the response led investigators to identify a suspect. A 41-year-old man from Peterborough County was located a short time later and taken into custody.

The investigation is now being handled by the Major Crime Unit. As a result, the accused has been charged with attempted murder.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough for a bail hearing.
