A young driver is facing serious charges after being caught traveling at more than three times the posted speed limit in Belleville earlier this week.
On November 4th, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers with the Belleville Police Service were conducting traffic enforcement along Bell Boulevard when a vehicle was clocked at 169 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
As a result, an 18-year-old man from Burnstown was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Police say his driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
The accused was issued a summons with a court date in December.
Police continue to remind motorists that excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal collisions on Ontario roadways.
