The community of Campbellford is grieving following a tragic ATV incident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old on Wednesday night.
The small, close-knit town, located within Trent Hills, has been left shaken by the sudden loss.
Details surrounding the incident are still limited at this time. What is known so far is that it involved a single ATV (all-terrain vehicle) and has been described as a rollover. It occurred on the OFSC trail, also known as the Trans Canada Trail, just off of Burnbrae Road, which was blocked off for several hours.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the injuries sustained were confirmed to be fatal upon arrival at the hospital.
Officials have not yet released additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
As news spread throughout the region, many residents expressed shock and sadness, with some noting how incidents like this are especially difficult in smaller communities where people are closely connected.
Campbellford, known for its rural setting and strong sense of community, is now coming together in support of those affected.
While the investigation continues, reminders around ATV safety continue to be shared, particularly when it comes to younger riders.
Proper training
the use of helmets and protective gear,
and understanding terrain conditions are all considered important factors in reducing the risk of serious injury.
