Former Peterborough Police Officer Pleads Guilty, Resigns from Service

A former member of the Peterborough Police Service has pleaded guilty to a criminal offence and resigned from the service, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Chief of Police.
The statement confirmed that Mackenzie "Max" Rogers resigned from the Peterborough Police Service effective June 9th, 2026. The resignation was a condition of an agreement that allowed the Crown Attorney's Office to proceed with a guilty plea on one of several criminal charges Rogers had been facing.
Rogers appeared in court on June 10th, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.
According to reports we have received the charges may stem from the theft of an automobile. This has not been verified at this time.
He is scheduled to return to court on August 24th, 2026, for sentencing.
In the statement, the Chief of Police described the situation as particularly troubling, noting that public trust is damaged when a sworn police officer engages in criminal conduct.
The statement further noted that incidents involving police officers affect not only the organization but also the policing profession as a whole, as officers are expected to uphold the laws they are sworn to enforce.
The Peterborough Police Service said it will continue to follow the case through the sentencing process. Following his guilty plea, Rogers will be subject to the same court-imposed conditions and compliance monitoring as any other convicted offender once sentenced.
