Update: As of 8:55am the westbound lanes have reopened
Highway 401 going westbound has been closed this morning at Lyle Street in Grafton, west of Colborne, following a collision involving two transport trucks.
Clean-up efforts are currently underway at the scene. Minor injuries have been reported.
The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while emergency crews and clean-up teams work in the area.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area, plan alternate routes, and expect significant delays along the westbound lanes of Highway 401 through the Grafton and Colborne area.
Motorists travelling through Northumberland County should give themselves extra time and watch for emergency vehicles and traffic backups near the closure.
Further updates are expected as clean-up efforts continue.
