A late-night collision in Belleville’s west end has resulted in multiple charges after a suspected impaired driver crashed into several vehicles before striking a hydro pole.
Belleville Police were called to the area around 11:57 p.m. on April 8th following reports of a vehicle driving erratically and colliding with other cars. The situation quickly escalated when the vehicle ultimately left the roadway and crashed into a hydro pole, bringing it to a stop.
Upon arrival, officers located the damaged vehicle and spoke with the female driver. Police say signs of impairment were observed during the interaction, prompting a further investigation. During this process, additional damage was reportedly caused to a Belleville Police Service instrument.
As a result of the investigation, Lisa Knightly, age 45, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired - Alcohol
Failure or refusal to comply with the demand
Mischief, renders property inoperative (x2)
She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
Police continue to remind the public that impaired driving remains a serious risk to community safety.
Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
