Impaired Driving Charges Laid Following Collision in Belleville’s East End

| Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions |

Belleville police have charged a 21-year-old man with impaired driving following a single-vehicle collision in the city’s east end.

Officers were called to the scene around 7:15 p.m. on March 14th after receiving reports of a vehicle being driven erratically, before ultimately striking a pole, according to police.

When officers arrived, they located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. During the interaction, police say signs of impairment were observed, leading to further investigation.

As a result, Riley Howitt, 21, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams.

He was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in April.

Police continue to remind motorists that impaired driving remains a serious safety concern and urge the public to plan ahead and avoid getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

If you suspect impaired driving, please report it to your local authorities. You could save a life.
