Jackknifed Tractor Trailer Blocks Lanes on Highway 401 Westbound Near Cobourg

| Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions |

Update #1: The right lanes have reopened, and traffic is starting to flow, but the left lane remains closed.

A jackknifed tractor-trailer is causing significant delays on Highway 401 westbound near marker 471, just approaching Burnham Street in the Cobourg area.

The transport truck is currently blocking approximately two lanes of traffic, resulting in heavy congestion and slow-moving conditions for westbound motorists.

Compounding the situation are rapidly changing weather conditions. Drivers in the area are encountering sudden whiteouts that develop with little warning, along with slippery, icy and slushy road surfaces.

Visibility can drop quickly, making travel especially hazardous.

Motorists should expect delays and be prepared for stop-and-go traffic as emergency crews work to manage the scene and clear the roadway. Extreme caution is advised, with drivers urged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and adjust driving to the conditions.

If travel is not necessary, consider delaying your trip or using an alternate route until conditions improve.
