Military Training Exercises Underway in Belleville and Trenton Area

Residents across Eastern Ontario may notice an increase in military presence this month, as members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Special Operations Forces carry out planned training exercises in the Belleville–Trenton corridor and surrounding communities.
These activities are part of routine preparedness efforts that help ensure military and emergency personnel are ready to respond to both domestic and international missions. Organizers emphasize that all exercises are conducted with safety, professionalism, and minimal disruption to the public.
1. Special Operations Training (June 11–27)
Areas Involved:
Belleville
Trenton (Quinte West)
Campbellford
Bloomfield
Picton
Tweed
Stirling
What to Expect:
Military vehicles and aircraft in local areas
Personnel in uniform or plainclothes
Simulated gunfire using blank ammunition
Controlled use of training smoke and sound effects
No live ammunition or real explosives will be used

2. Emergency Preparedness Drill – June 12
In a separate event, a one-day emergency response simulation will take place at a military facility near Trenton.

What You Might See:
Emergency vehicles coordinating a live drill
Temporary changes to entry points at a military gate off Highway 2
No road closures are expected outside the base
This drill is designed to test emergency plans in a controlled, safe environment. There is no threat to the public.

Safety First
All training is authorized and supervised
No live rounds or dangerous explosives are used
Exercises may take place on both public and private land (with permission)
Minimal Disruption
Activity will be visible but temporary
