Montreal Driver Charged With Stunt Driving After Reaching 176 km/h on Highway 401 in Brighton

A 21-year-old driver from Montréal, Quebec, has been charged with stunt driving after being stopped by police on Highway 401 in Brighton.
According to the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police, the vehicle was observed travelling at 176 km/h on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at approximately 2:40 a.m. on June 4th, 2026.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and charged the driver under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act for stunt driving.
As a result of the charge, the driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is also scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police continue to remind motorists that excessive speed puts all road users at risk and are urging drivers to slow down and make safe choices behind the wheel.
