Ontario Families Advised of School Bus Service Disruptions Due to Driver Shortages

The Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services (STS) has issued a notice advising families to prepare for possible school bus service disruptions, as Ontario continues to face a province-wide bus driver shortage.
According to STS, the reality of the shortage means route cancellations will be unavoidable in some cases. Parents are being asked to make alternate arrangements when necessary and to check updates regularly.
Despite the challenges, some drivers have expressed willingness to help. For example, drivers contracted under Hamilton bus lines have indicated they would be prepared to step in to cover certain routes if asked. Parents and community members have voiced frustration that these offers of support have not yet been fully acted upon.
Families are strongly encouraged to check route updates daily, both in the morning and afternoon, by visiting mybigyellowbus.ca or using the BusPlanner Delays app for the latest delay and cancellation information.
STS has stated they will continue to work to minimize disruptions as much as possible, but families should remain prepared for sudden changes as the shortage continues to affect services.
