According to the Central Hastings OPP, officers attempted to stop the vehicle due to several equipment violations. However, when police tried to initiate the stop, the driver failed to pull over and instead fled the area at high speeds.
Police say the vehicle is believed to be an older white pickup truck with several distinctive features that may make it easier to identify. Investigators describe the truck as having a “do-it-yourself” under-glow lighting package that appears to be partially falling off, a partially obstructed licence plate, and a loud exhaust system.
The incident has prompted officers to seek help from the public in locating the vehicle and identifying the person responsible. Police say fleeing from an attempted traffic stop poses a significant safety risk, both to officers and to other motorists who may be on the road at the time.
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Central Hastings OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E260281883.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can also submit information through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Police are reminding motorists that failing to stop for police is a serious offence and urging anyone with information about the pickup truck to come forward.
