A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train in Cobourg Sunday evening, prompting a significant police investigation and temporary road closures in the downtown area.

Cobourg Police Service responded to the scene on D’Arcy Street, just south of Kerr Street, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Emergency responders, investigators, and the Coroner remained on site for several hours as they examined the scene.

D’Arcy Street was closed to traffic during the investigation, with police asking the public to avoid the area.

The roadway was later reopened at approximately 9:30 p.m. after investigators cleared the scene.

No details have been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident and the identity of the individual has not been released out of respect for the family's privacy.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim, as well as the train crew who will remember this day forever. Your community stands with you during this difficult time.
