A 44-year-old Peterborough man wanted in connection with a December homicide has been located and taken into custody, bringing an end to a weeks-long search.

According to police, at approximately 3:00 p.m. on December 26, 2025, investigators with the Peterborough Police Service became aware that the suspect was in the city. Officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team, attended a residence on Dalhousie Street and the Aylmer Street area of Peterborough.

Police say the suspect exited the residence and surrendered without incident after officers called out to him.

As a result, Michael Waterman, 44, of Peterborough, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in relation to a homicide that occurred in Peterborough on December 6, 2025. Investigators also indicated that Waterman was wanted in connection with a separate homicide in Durham Region on December 23, 2025.

Waterman is currently being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

In a statement, Peterborough Police thanked the public for their vigilance over the past several weeks, as well as partner agencies including the Belleville Police Service and the Durham Regional Police Service.

Police confirmed that the search is now over for suspects connected to the December 6 homicide and that all individuals believed to be involved will now be tried before the court.

Thank you to everyone who shared and helped bring this man to justice
