Prohibited Driver Charged Following Suspicious Activity on North Front Street

A report of suspicious activity in a North Front Street parking lot led to multiple charges against a Belleville man on Tuesday in the evening.
On April 21st at approximately 10:39 p.m., Belleville Police responded after it was reported that two vehicles were seen switching licence plates. Officers attended the area and located both vehicles, noting that each was displaying the same plate.
Police conducted traffic stops on both vehicles and, during the investigation, determined that the male driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
Officers also located methamphetamine in the driver's possession.
As a result, a 55-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
Operation while prohibited
Possession of a Schedule I substance - Methamphetamine
Fail to comply with a release order
Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
Fail to surrender insurance card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The female driver involved was also issued a Provincial Offence Notice for use of a plate not authorized for a vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
