The Loyalist College community is preparing to come together in a show of support for public education and local jobs.

On Wednesday, September 3 at 12:00 p.m., students, staff, and area residents will gather in the P8 parking lot at Loyalist College, just off Wallbridge Loyalist Road, to rally against cuts that have raised deep concerns about the college’s future.

The event, part of the Save Our Colleges campaign, follows recent financial decisions that have left management expected to outnumber full-time instructors in the near future. For many, these changes represent more than just restructuring; they put both opportunities for students and the stability of good local jobs at risk.

Loyalist has long been an anchor in the region, offering a place for students to pursue their education close to home while also providing steady employment for faculty and staff. The college supports not only the dreams of learners but also the livelihoods of workers whose roles are essential to the community.

Organizers stress that these connections between education and employment are worth protecting. “The future of public, accessible education in our backyard is at risk,” the campaign notice reads. “We can still reverse course, join us in standing up for a different future!

The rally aims to highlight how decisions made today will impact not only classrooms but also the local economy. Fewer instructors mean fewer jobs, fewer opportunities for students, and fewer skilled graduates to meet the needs of employers in the area.

At its core, the gathering is about defending hope, opportunity, and livelihoods. By standing together, the Loyalist community is sending a clear message: education and jobs go hand in hand, and both are worth fighting for.

Anyone who cannot make the rally is encouraged to voice their concerns via telephone to Loyalist College administration in a professional manner.

Please spread the word far and wide. We hope to see some great numbers on Wednesday. Let's remind Loyalist who they need: students and talented professors.
