Severe Thunderstorm Risk: Damaging Winds, Large Hail, and Tornado Potential Expected This Afternoon

Updated: May 1

Environment Canada has issued a severe weather advisory as conditions become increasingly favorable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms across the region this afternoon into early evening.

What to Expect:

Tornado Risk: Conditions are favorable for production of a tornado

Wind Gusts: Potentially reaching up to 110 km/h

Hail: Large hailstones up to 4 cm in diameter

These storms are being triggered by a cold front sweeping through the area, creating an unstable atmosphere conducive to intense and potentially damaging weather.

Large hail can result in property damage and pose serious injury risks, while wind gusts of this strength have the potential to damage buildings, topple trees, and create hazardous driving conditions—especially for high-profile vehicles.

Residents are urged to stay alert and monitor updates from Environment Canada throughout the day.

Stay safe and take shelter if severe weather approaches.
