Update Friday, October 3rd: As of 9:03am trains seem to be moving normally and as scheduled.
A stop train order was issued Thursday evening along the rail corridor stretching from Oshawa through to Tyendinaga Territory, near Belleville, after a fatality occurred in the area of Bowmanville.
Authorities responded quickly to the scene, and all train traffic along this corridor was brought to a halt while the investigation continued. Rail officials and local authorities are working together to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The disruption has affected rail service through the region, with trains being held until clearance is given for the line to reopen.
Our community extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the individual who lost their life, as well as to the train crew involved, who are also deeply impacted by this tragic event.
