A devastating tragedy occurred on Thursday at Sandbanks Provincial Park, where a 3-year-old child lost their life after drowning in shallow water during a family outing.
Emergency crews, including the OPP, paramedics, fire services, and park wardens, responded quickly after reports of a missing child. Bystanders helped locate the child and bring them to shore, where life-saving efforts were immediately started. Sadly, despite their best efforts, the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The child’s name has not been released, out of respect for the family’s privacy. Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information to contact 1‑888‑310‑1122.
This marks the third drowning in the region in just one week, adding to a heartbreaking trend after two separate drownings occurred the weekend before and reminding all of us how quickly accidents can happen near water.
