An arrest warrant has been issued today August 20th, 2025, for a 20-year-old man from Ajax after a dramatic traffic stop in Quinte West that resulted in the seizure of dangerous drugs and a loaded firearm.

On Monday evening, August 18, at approximately 7:45 p.m., members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team stopped a vehicle on Highway 401 eastbound near Wooler Road after it was clocked traveling at speeds exceeding 150 km/h.

The driver fled the scene on foot and managed to evade officers despite a coordinated response from the Quinte West OPP, the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Aviation Services.

A search of the vehicle uncovered more than 80 grams of suspected fentanyl, about 40 grams of suspected cocaine, a loaded handgun, cannabis, and a quantity of cash.

A second individual in the vehicle was arrested at the scene without incident.

The passenger, a 22-year-old from Ajax named Jevon Armstrong, is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Flight from a peace officer

  • Resist peace officer

  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing

  • Possession of an identity document (two counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Police confirmed the arrest warrant is for the 20-year-old driver who escaped on foot after the stop not the 22 year old that they have charged. Authorities have not released his name at this time, but updates will follow as that information is made available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Quinte West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or ontariocrimestoppers.ca
