A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a Belleville Police Service investigation into allegations of intimate partner violence, including harassment, assault, threats and forcible confinement.

The investigation began on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, after police received a report of ongoing harassment involving a male and an intimate partner.

While speaking with the victim, investigators also learned of a previous incident in which the male allegedly physically assaulted, threatened and forcibly restrained the victim inside a vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for the following four offences:

  • Criminal Harassment: Repeatedly Communicating

  • Assault: Spousal

  • Forcible Confinement

  • Uttering Threats: To Cause Death or Bodily Harm

On Thursday, October 8th, 2026, officers arrested the 28-year-old Thomasburg resident on the outstanding warrant.

The accused was subsequently released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in November 2026.

Domestic Violence Awareness: Recognizing the Signs and Speaking Up

Intimate partner violence can take many forms, including physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and controlling behaviour.

These incidents can occur behind closed doors, making awareness and community involvement especially important.

Domestic violence is not always visible, and individuals experiencing abuse may face significant challenges when attempting to seek help or leave an unsafe situation.

If you witness or have information about suspected domestic violence, you are encouraged to report your concerns to police. Even information that may seem minor could help authorities identify someone at risk, prevent further harm or support an ongoing investigation.

Residents can contact The Belleville Police Service to report suspected domestic violence. If someone is in immediate danger or a crime is actively taking place, call 911.

Recognize the signs. Report your concerns. Help protect someone in need.
