Belleville Police Seize 9mm Handgun After Firearm Altercation in City’s East End

In a media release issued yesterday, Belleville Police say a 27-year-old Belleville man is facing multiple weapons charges after officers responded to a reported firearm-related altercation in the city’s east end.


Police were called on May 9th at approximately 10:21 p.m. after receiving a report that a male was outside a residence with a firearm. According to police, the male had allegedly pointed the firearm while attempting to get the complainant to open the door.


When officers arrived, they located the male and arrested him without incident.


Police say officers seized a 9mm handgun and a magazine containing eight rounds.


The accused, a 27-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon

  • Carrying a concealed weapon

  • Breach of firearm regulation

  • transport firearm

  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

  • Pointing a firearm with intent


He was held for a bail hearing.


This comes just six days after Small Town News last reported on another handgun seizure in Belleville involving a loaded firearm.


Police have not released the name of the accused at this time.
