What’s Your Take, Quinte? Fewer Trick-or-Treaters or Just Different Streets This Year?

Halloween night across Quinte and Quinte West looked a little different this year. Some streets were bustling with children in costumes, while others stayed unusually quiet, leaving many residents wondering whether overall turnout for trick-or-treating was down across the region.
Reports Vary
Early feedback shared by local residents paints a mixed picture. In some areas, families reported steady streams of visitors, while in others, candy bowls remained nearly full by the end of the night.
The pattern seemed to shift block by block. Some neighbourhoods, especially those with clusters of young families or brightly decorated homes, saw consistent activity. Others, particularly rural or less densely populated streets, experienced only a few knocks at the door.
Weather Likely Played a Role
The evening’s damp conditions may have been a major factor. Rain and light flurries moved through much of the region during prime trick-or-treat hours, creating slick sidewalks and chilly winds that likely shortened many routes.
Temperatures hovered just above freezing for much of the evening, making it less appealing for families with younger children to stay out for long.
Other Contributing Factors
While there’s no official data yet on Halloween participation across Quinte, several likely influences stand out:
Community Events: Local attractions such as the Downtown Belleville Halloween Hunt and other trunk-or-treat gatherings offered earlier or indoor alternatives.
Demographics: Some neighbourhoods simply have fewer young children than in previous years, leading to quieter streets.
Visibility: Homes that were dimly lit or undecorated may have been skipped by families unsure if candy was being offered.
Now, we’d like to hear from you.
Did your street see fewer trick-or-treaters than usual? Or was it just as lively as ever?
