The Belleville Police Service is urging residents to remain vigilant following a series of four recent daytime residential break-and-enter incidents across the city.
According to police, the break-ins occurred in the Potter's Creek, Parkdale, and Farnham Road areas of Belleville. Investigators believe the incidents may be connected and are actively continuing the investigation.
Police say there is evidence that some of the break-ins involved pre-planning. In several cases, suspects were reportedly seen sitting in parked vehicles while monitoring homeowners as they left their residences. In other instances, individuals allegedly knocked on doors to determine whether anyone was home before targeting the property.
Several suspect vehicles have been identified, and investigators continue working to identify those responsible.
The Belleville Police Service is encouraging residents to take additional precautions to help protect their homes. Homeowners are reminded to ensure all doors and windows remain locked at all times, even during the daytime when the home is unoccupied. Police also recommend the use of alarm systems, exterior lighting, and video surveillance where possible.
Residents are also encouraged to remain aware of unfamiliar vehicles or individuals in their neighbourhoods.
At this time, there have been no reports of injuries associated with these incidents. Police believe the suspects are targeting unoccupied residences and gaining entry through forced means.
Anyone with information related to these recent break-and-enter occurrences is asked to contact the Belleville Police Service at 613-966-0882.
Community Safety Reminder
Residents are encouraged to look out for one another and report suspicious activity as soon as it is observed. If you notice unfamiliar vehicles parked for extended periods, individuals going door-to-door under unusual circumstances, or anyone attempting to gain entry to a home, contact the Belleville Police Service immediately. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, call 911.
