Two Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Located in Belleville’s West End

Two individuals are facing multiple charges following the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Belleville’s west end on February 28.
According to Belleville Police Service, officers received a report of a stolen vehicle at approximately 12:22 p.m. Later that afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., police located the suspect vehicle travelling in the city’s west end.
Officers were able to successfully block the vehicle at an intersection, preventing it from continuing.
Police report that the driver attempted to punch an officer before fleeing on foot, prompting a brief foot pursuit. The driver was taken into custody a short distance from the scene.
At the same time, the passenger exited the vehicle and fled in the opposite direction. Officers apprehended the passenger shortly thereafter. During the arrest, police located a BB gun in the passenger’s pocket.
As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
Theft of motor vehicle
Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts)
Fail to comply with a probation order
Imitation firearm – use while committing an offence
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Assault with intent to resist arrest
He was held for a bail hearing.
A 16-year-old Belleville male, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was also arrested and charged with:
Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Imitation firearm – use while committing an offence
Fail to comply with a probation order (two counts)
Fail to comply with a release order
Carrying a concealed weapon
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
He was likewise held for a bail hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing. No names have been released at this time.
