According to Northumberland OPP, the incident occurred on January 30, 2026, when a visitor at the facility allegedly refused to leave. The situation escalated when the individual kicked a door, resulting in injuries to a Correctional Officer.
The staff member was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-serious injuries.
Following an investigation by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, one person was taken into custody on March 16th.
A 32-year-old woman from Scarborough has been charged with:
Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April 2026.

The Ontario Provincial Police and Correctional Service Canada continue to work together to maintain safety within facilities across the province.
Authorities are also reminding the public that information related to suspected unlawful activity can be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers at stopcrimehere.ca or by calling your local OPP detachment's non-emergency line.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or police as authorities continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to violence within correctional facilities.
