- Fire Ban Reinstated After Fireworks — Effective 11:59 p.m. Tonight in Marmora and Lake
MARMORA AND LAKE Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions The Municipality of Marmora and Lake has announced that a Restricted Fire Ban will come into effect immediately following tonight’s fireworks display, beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2025. The decision follows recent fire risk forecasts from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and consultations with local fire officials. While fireworks are still permitted tonight, the fire ban will take effect immediately after they conclude, marking the start of a full restriction on open-air burning. Once in effect, the ban prohibits the following: ❌ Campfires ❌ Burn barrels ❌ Outdoor stoves ❌ Any further use of fireworks or flying lanterns The municipality has made it clear that no fireworks are to be used after 11:59 p.m., and any open-air burning or violation of the restrictions may result in fines. Only small, contained fires used for cooking or heating purposes are allowed. No new burn permits will be issued during this period. The ban is a temporary safety measure that will remain in place until further notice. Only the Fire Department has the authority to lift the ban, and a formal announcement will be made when that occurs. Residents are urged to follow the restrictions closely and stay informed through official municipal channels. 🔁 Help Spread the Word Please share this important fire safety notice with your friends, family, and neighbours in Marmora and Lake. "Hello Belleville," the message begins. "I know all of you heard about the fire that happened last week. What I’m here to say to the amazing community of Belleville is thank you so much for being so kind." The popular local snack shop, known for its unique treats and community presence, remains closed until further notice. The owner shared that due to smoke damage, most of the products in-store are no longer safe to consume, delaying a return to normal operations. However, there may be a temporary solution on the horizon. The owner is currently exploring the idea of setting up a tent in the parking lot to resume limited sales. - North China Buffet Shut Down Following Health Concerns
BELLEVILLE, ON Small Town News | A Division of Small Town Productions The popular North China Buffet on Bell Boulevard has been ordered closed by the South East Health Unit (SEHU) after serious public health concerns were brought to light. The decision to close the long-standing restaurant came swiftly after a video surfaced online appearing to show individuals removing discarded food items from a dumpster and transporting them back into the kitchen area. The footage, which quickly gained traction on social media, prompted immediate investigation from health officials. Following an on-site inspection, SEHU cited multiple violations of Ontario's Food Premises Regulation , leading to an official closure notice being issued. The health unit has confirmed that the establishment will remain closed until all issues are fully addressed and the facility passes a reinspection. While no reports of illness have been directly linked to the incident as of this writing, the SEHU urges anyone who recently dined at the buffet and is feeling unwell to seek medical attention and report symptoms by contacting their office at 613‑966‑5500 ext. 677 North China Buffet, which had been a fixture in Belleville’s dining scene for over two decades, was known for offering a wide selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Canadian buffet options. However, inspection records from recent years reveal a troubling pattern. Past reports noted issues ranging from improper food handling practices and inadequate sanitation to pest control problems and the presence of foreign materials in food. The newly formed South East Health Unit , which merged three regional public health agencies earlier this year, has stated it is working with the restaurant’s operators to ensure all food safety standards are met before any reopening is considered. The health unit emphasized its responsibility to protect the public and uphold confidence in the local food service industry. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing food safety education and rigorous hygiene practices in commercial kitchens. Public health officials are also encouraging the community to remain informed and report any concerns related to food safety.
